3MDR 3MDR 3MDR was developed by Prof. Eric Vermetten, a military psychiatrist working for the Dutch ministry of defence and Leiden University Medical Centre. 3MDR uses the principles of EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to help reprocess memories for people who have sustained life-changing psychological trauma using virtual reality rehabilitation equipment. Virtual reality therapy has been shown to improve and speed up rehabilitation for those who have suffered from neurological and physical injuries. With the introduction of 3MDR, we can now use virtual reality applications to help treat psychological trauma such as PTSD. Motion-assisted Multi-modular Memory Desensitisation and Reprocessing (3MDR), is a new talking therapy for Military Veterans which shares many of the principles and methods used in existing therapies, but which extends these using virtual reality techniques including adding in your own music, photographs and walking on a treadmill. 3MDR is provided by Nicola Kitching and Wendy Edge, both are accredited providers with EMDR UK and Ireland and have undertaken training with Prof. Vermetten. Our work has been kindly supported by ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
