Bill Beaumont was a champion captain of the England Rugby team, he spent many years as a host on the BBC series A Question of Sport and was awarded a CBE for services to sport and rugby in 1982.

Recardo Patrick is an entertainer and businessman who has had hits with Sweet Sensation and Status Quo. He has performed at the closing of the Barcelona Olympic Games and has made a name in property development, selling clubs, restaurants, developments and bars.

Professor Raymond Tallis

Professor Raymond Tallis is a physician and clinical scientist. Born in Liverpool, he trained as a doctor at Oxford University and at St Thomas in London before going on to become a Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Manchester and a consultant physician in Health Care of the Elderly in Salford. 

Professor Tallis retired from medicine in 2006 to become a full-time writer, though he remained visiting Professor at St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London until 2008.

Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell

Nancy Rothewell

Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, FRS, Leads by example. Her own research in the field of neuroscience, which is ongoing, has contributed towards major advances in the understanding and treatment of brain damage in stroke and head injury.

She joined the Victoria University of Manchester in 1987, became a professor of physiology in 1994 and held an MRC Research Chair from 1998 to 2010. Concurrent with her faculty posts she has also held university roles as Vice-President for Research (2004-2007) and as a deputy president and deputy vice chancellor (2007-2010).

Dame Nancy became president and vice chancellor in July 2010, the first woman to lead The University of Manchester or either of its two predecessor institutions.
