Post Consussion Syndrome

Post Concussion Syndrome

What is concussion?

Concussion is the sudden loss of mental function that is often short lived and caused by severe head trauma or multiple impacts to the head.

Symptoms of post-concussion syndrome

The symptoms of post-concussion syndrome can often include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Sensitivity to noise
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Memory problems
  • Irritability
  • Difficulties with concentration

Living with concussion

In most cases, the symptoms of concussion often resolve themselves within two weeks. However, in some cases, the symptoms can last much longer. If this happens it is important to seek advice from your GP.

It is important that families and friends are informed and made aware of your injury in order to make necessary adjustments, these may include not rushing to return to work, keeping stress to a minimum and abstaining from alcohol.
