In 2008 the Department of Health approved funding for the Brain and Spinal Injury Centre to publish and disseminate our model of brain injury vocational rehabilitation. BASIC is a specialist resource, in the North West, for people and their families following a traumatic brain or spinal injury and neurological diagnosis. Our aim is to maximise self autonomy and reduce dependency on primary and secondary care. 

This report is presented to enable managers in NHS Primary Care and other Trusts to consider the way they can work in partnership with BASIC to enable their Trust to meet the aims and objectives of the National Service Frameworks. In particular, the Department of Health Quality Requirement 6: Vocational rehabilitation with regard to delivering cost-effective vocational rehabilitation services for people with neurological and long-term conditions.
